Since the 1990s, Denim Day has been advocating for sexual violence prevention. Some people will make the claim that a person's clothing - especially tight jeans - means that sexual violence against them is acceptable.Denim Day advocates that "there is no excuse and never an invitation to rape", and encourages people worldwide to wear denim in solidarity with this statement.ORCA POD will be hosting a denim-based craft project in the Wood Center from 12-2pm.Learn more: https://denimday.org/why-denim

Kick Up Your Heels
Friday, April 26 ~ 12-2pm ~ Constitution Park

Every two minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. We need to change this in Alaska and in our world. Help us spread awareness to this critical issue by joining the Kick Up Your Heels relay races. We are looking for teams of 2-3 people to take a stand against sexual violence by, wearing heels (pumps of all kinds–short, tall, etc) to compete in three relay races at Constitution Park (the garden space– between Constitution Hall, Gruening, and the library). If you’re in a UAF club, you could win funding. If you’re not in a club, you can win gift cards and a trophy! After all, It’s not the clothing/shoes that cause sexual violence, it’s the person who causes harm. Being able to find that peace for survivors and that moment of awareness for communities is the real motivation behind this activity.Sexual violence is never deserved, no matter the shoes (or other attire) of the victim. Clothing is not consent!Partnering with Student Leadership and Involvement - uaf.edu/sli
